Who’s Cheering In Your Corner?
Why Community Matters: Finding Support as You Grow and Change
A few years ago, I didn’t think much about community. Honestly, I thought it wasn’t for me. Between family, work, and trying to keep everything organized, the idea of joining community activities felt like just… one more thing to juggle.
Back then, “community” made me think of church, local town groups, or school events. They always seemed like extra mental and physical load — and I didn’t have the capacity.
But then I became interested in coaching, and later, training women in the corporate space. As part of that journey, I joined a community of like-minded coaches and trainers. Not all of them focused on corporate work, but they shared the same mindset — growth, curiosity, and commitment to helping women lead authentically.
And wow. That experience changed everything.
Learning and Growing Within a Supportive Community
Being part of this community made learning and growing feel easier, lighter, and more exciting. Suddenly, I had people around me who got it. People who were learning similar skills, tackling similar challenges, and cheering each other on.
Over time, that community became a space to explore ideas, test my confidence, and even contemplate bold moves I wouldn’t have considered before.
Communities give you something that friends and family often can’t: a shared lens, shared vision, and practical understanding of the challenges you’re facing. It’s not that friends or family can’t support you — they absolutely can. But they may not see the same opportunities or feel comfortable with the same risks you’re taking. Sometimes, they can even feel a little unnerved by the changes in you.
A like-minded, ambitious group of peers offers something unique: advice, encouragement, accountability, and the occasional cheerleading boost when you need it most.
How to Find or Build Your Community
As you navigate career changes, promotions, or new ventures, think about your community. Ask yourself:
Who around me understands the challenges I’m facing?
Who can offer advice from a place of experience?
Who can celebrate wins, big or small, without judgment?
You don’t need to do it alone. And the right community can make the difference between hesitation and bold, confident action.
A Thought for Today
Community isn’t just a nice-to-have. It’s fundamental to growth, confidence, and authentic leadership. Whether you’re stepping into a bigger role, shifting careers, or simply trying to show up as yourself, the people around you — the ones who truly get it — can lift you further than you could go alone.
So, as you think about your next steps, ask yourself: who can support you, cheerlead you, and guide you? Who can help you take that extra confident leap? That’s the power of community — and it’s waiting for you.
